As most deadlines for college applications have already passed, seniors should be blissfully happy. (Good riddance to all those random essay questions that somehow determine whether you would be a good candidate for the college.) Instead, there are incessant conversations featuring anxiety as the topic of the day. What if I don’t get into college? What will I do? I feel sympathetic to their anguish, but then I look to see who makes these comments. Most the time, it is either a student with 3.8 GPA looking to complain to anyone that will listen. I must admit I am guilty of this too, whining about unrealistic outcomes while I as well as the other complainers have already been accepted into college.
Why do we worry so much about this? In fact, we don’t just worry; we obsess, as if that will do anything. Repeating, “Oh my god, I’m not going to go college,” still hasn’t changed anything except how annoying you sound. We will attend the school we are supposed and agonizing about this won’t change anything; if anything it will make you more doubtful about your probability of getting into that school.
As my first official declaration, I proclaim all seniors to stop your complaining and channel your energy into something else. Why not remember your senior year by reminding everyone else that they have to stay in beloved EPHS. Seriously, as seniors we have had some great times. Listening to Conn make it a great day or not and trampling over every school in football have been a couple of the many highlights that we’ve had at EPHS. That is why we must live it up! Join a sport, volunteer; spend time with friends and family. This is our senior year, and we shouldn’t waste our time worrying about something we know is going to happen.
